“omg you’re killing animals”

yes. we are killing cows. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a cow but it just stands around and goes “MAWOOOOOOOOOOOOO” and eats grass. It is a fucking cow, not a human being. It is not capable of scientific though or rational thinking beyond basic instinct.

I also…

Animals have feelings. Also, pigs and cows are probably smarter than your dog.

Just because you have no use for an animal doesn’t mean that that animal is purposeless and is not worthy of a life.

This hypocrisy is so fucking common it’s depressing.

Since when do we judge a life’s worth based on whether or not they are human? If you walked down the street and saw someone stabbing a cat or a dog in the head, would you say ‘it is a fucking cat’ ‘it is a fucking dog?’ cat, dog, cow, pig, chicken, tiger, human, ALL feel pain and desire to be free EQUALLY.

Since when do we justify the killing of beings on whether or not they can think rationally and scientifically? Can a baby think rationally? No, it can’t, so by your thinking it must be okay to kill babies. Were the children who were murdered in Newton capable of scientific thinking? No, so that must be okay too, right?

Which characteristics do humans have that enable them to eat meat, pray tell? Animals do feed on each other in the wild, but your big mac was not killed in the wild. You cannot catch a cow and kill it. If you had the ‘characteristics’ to eat meat, you would instinctively be able to chase down, immobilise, kill and eat raw (shitty colon, eyeballs, brain and all) that cow.

They do not have feelings? Really? If you punish a domesticated dog I think you’d agree the dog will show signs of emotion or feeling. A pig is more intelligent than a 3 year old child and is capable of just as much ‘feeling’ as you.

Get educated or prepare to be schooled.

Come again

So much ignorance, so little time.

Your cat/dog example is entirely a strawman argument, so there’s no point in trying to make a case against it. (this isn’t a concession in your favor)

If your backwards logic is to protect life, you shouldn’t be eating plants, since they are alive. Science also shows that trees and plants CAN and DO feel pain.

Humans have tons of characteristics that enable us to eat meat. Notice those sharp teeth? those are called canines. They are designed specifically for tearing through meat. Our body actually can process raw meat. including brain, eyes, etc. No animal can process an animals full colon, they will get sepsis from the waste inside. this is why animals LEAVE THAT SHIT ALONE (no pun intended) when they kill an animal. Humans are just accustomed to eating cooked food after years of evolution, but we can eat raw meat.

You also need to compare apples to apples. if you’re going to compare a human baby to something, compare it to a pig baby. same with adults to adults. Dogs are domesticated, and the modicum of “feeling/emotion” you’re referring to is pack instinct, where it sees its owner as a pack leader.

I actually work at an animal shelter. Get your education from somebody other than peta wingnuts. Get educated or get schooled, bitch.

Your cat/dog example is entirely a strawman argument

Well no it’s not, actually. You have been conditioned to perceive a set group of fluffy, domesticated animals as ‘pets’, and to completely disregard the welfare and even the existence of other equally sentient animals such as cows, pigs and chickens. You have been told, from the minute you were born, that cats and dogs are to be treated nicely and looked after, and other animals belong on a farm, belong in cages, and belong on your plate. In America, it is traditional and customary for people to ‘own’ cats and dogs. In Korea, they have been told a slightly different story. Cats are eaten there as frequently as you eat chickens. In China, the story differs too because dogs are also consumed. In parts of India, they would never dream of eating a cow because they have been told that cows are sacred animals and must be respected. Once you realise the similarities between farmed animals and domesticated ‘pets’, you will never see the differences again. Both dogs and cows have feet to walk, a nose to smell, eyes to see, a tail to wag, lungs to breathe and a tongue to lick. Both dogs and cows will chase each other to play, sit down to rest, approach out of curiosity, run with fear and wimper with pain. Both dogs and cows recognise sights, smells, sounds, and any number of other stimuli because they are both equally SENTIENT beings. Both dogs and cows FEEL pain and desire to be FREE. Just like you, just like me, just like a pigeon, a rat, a cat, a bat, a giraffe, a toad, a mouse, a spider. You have been told to see differences and be blind to similarities.

you shouldn’t be eating plants, since they are alive. Science also shows that trees and plants CAN and DO feel pain.

You really need to do some reading my friend, because you are very much mistaken. Neither trees or plants have a central nervous system, meaning they cannot feel pain. There is no such science. If you didn’t have a CNS, you couldn’t feel. When people become paralysed, their CNS is what breaks and stops them from feeling a thing.

Lets look at some truly carnivorous animals and then look at our own teeth.

Our teeth are not designed to tear through meat. If you were to try and tear through raw meat using nothing but your teeth, I guarantee they would be pulled out in no time. Teeth is actually one of the main characteristics humans DO NOT share with carnivores. Carnivores SNAP. Watch a cat or dog eat. They do not chew because their mouths can only go UP and DOWN. SNAP. Human mouths GRIND. When you chew your food you go round and round and round in a circular motion.

Humans cannot digest raw meat well at all. You would certainly die if you did this for any prolonged period of time, from the bacteria in raw meat alone. Carnivores eat every part of a carcass, shitty intestinal tract included. Watch a clip of a big cat eating a gazelle. No picking there, they just grab whatever’s nearest to them and swallow it down, only bones are left behind for the vultures. Carnivores have much stronger levels of hydrochloric acid in their stomachs, meaning they are perfectly suited to digesting raw meat. Then, their much shorter intestinal tracts push the rotting meat out very quickly. Humans have a long tract, leading to many problems  such as bowel and colon cancer after a life of eating meat. Carnivores have no such problems.

You work at an animal shelter, yet you happily support and promote the suffering and murdering of animals. Sounds reasonable. What would you do if someone brought in an injured cow, chicken, pig, sheep, turkey, goose or duck? Turn them away because they don’t feel pain?

no amount of false propaganda can sanitize meat.

the conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking.

To produce 1 lb. of feedlot beef requires 7 lbs. of feed grain, which takes 7,000 lbs. of water to grow. Pass up one hamburger, and you’ll save as much water as you save by taking 40 showers with a low-flow nozzle. Yet in the U.S., 70% of all the wheat, corn and other grain produced goes to feeding herds of livestock. Around the world, as more water is diverted to raising pigs and chickens instead of producing crops for direct consumption, millions of wells are going dry. India, China, North Africa and the U.S. are all running freshwater deficits, pumping more from their aquifers than rain can replenish. As populations in water-scarce regions continue to expand, governments will inevitably act to cut these deficits by shifting water to grow food, not feed. The new policies will raise the price of meat to levels unaffordable for any but the rich. […]In the U.S., livestock now produce 130 times as much waste as people do. Just one hog farm in Utah, for example, produces more sewage than the city of Los Angeles. These megafarms are proliferating, and in populous areas their waste is tainting drinking water. In more pristine regions, from Indonesia to the Amazon, tropical rain forest is being burned down to make room for more and more cattle. Agriculture is the world’s biggest cause of deforestation, and increasing demand for meat is the biggest force in the expansion of agriculture.
